The dust developed in brake mechanisms can contain unhealthy asbestos. At all do not blow off a brake dust the compressed air and try not to inhale it. At performance of works on repair and service of brake mechanisms use a special filtering mask or a respirator. Under no circumstances do not apply to cleaning of components of brake mechanisms solvents on an oil basis. For this purpose the special cleaning structure or денатурированный spirit should be used only!

In addition to stipulated by the schedule of routine maintenance of the car to review periods of brake system, the condition of brake mechanisms should be checked each time at removal of wheels or at display of signs of malfunction of brakes.

Disk brake mechanisms

Disk brake mechanisms usually equip forward wheels of the car, but in certain cases - and back. Deterioration brake колодок over the limits stipulated in Specifications can lead to irreversible damage of brake disks.

Supports of disk brake mechanisms in which are established Pads, after removal of wheels become well visible. In each support there is one external brake колодка and one internal. The condition of all of four колодок should be checked up.

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. If you meet difficulties with definition of a thickness of the remained frictional material, remove Pads for more detailed research (the Head Brake system).
  2. Before installation of wheels into place make sure of absence of leaks of a brake liquid and-or damages of brake hoses (cracks, splittings, etc.) in area their connection to unions of supports. In case of need replace hoses (or unions) (the Head Brake system).
  3. Check up a condition of brake disks. In case of detection of deep scratches, furrows and overheat traces, assemblage of a nave with a disk is necessary for removing for carrying out of a recovery work (the Head Brake system).

Drum-type brake mechanisms

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. On back brake mechanisms remove drums, having pulled together them from pins drivers shaft/semiaxes and brake assemblages. If the drum does not give in to removal, make sure that the lay brake is released, then moisten with getting oil a joint between a nave and a drum and repeat attempt to remove a drum.
  2. If the drum on the former does not give in to removal, it is necessary to "release" the self-regulator mechanism slightly. For this purpose at first it is necessary to take a small stopper from a board of the brake mechanism.
  3. Having removed a stopper, insert into an aperture a thin screw-driver and raise the regulator lever, having taken away it from a gear castor, then by means of the special adjusting tool or besides a screw-driver turn a castor back on some turns. It will lead отодвиганию brake boots from drum walls. If the drum does not act in film and now, обстучите it from within on all perimetre a hammer with soft the brisk.
  1. Thin screw-driver raise the regulator lever, then the special tool or other screw-driver turn the released gear castor back on some turns.
  1. Having removed a drum, watch to touching a brake dust (the prevention in the Section beginning see).
  2. Check up a thickness and a condition of both frictional overlays (forward and back) brake boots. If the material of overlays is worn out below an admissible limit (1.6 mm), boots should be replaced. Boots are subject to replacement as well in case of detection in them of cracks or presence заполированных to shine or polluted by oil / a brake liquid of sites of overlays.

  1. Make sure that all springs of the brake mechanism are connected and are in a satisfactory condition.

  1. Wipe an internal surface of a drum the pure rags moistened with a special cleaner or methyl spirit. Remember that asbestos is very unhealthy - do not inhale a brake dust!
  2. Check up an internal surface of a drum on presence of cracks, cavities, deep scratches and sites of an overheat which are appreciable by change of colouring of a surface. If defects cannot be eliminated by means of a thin emery paper, it is necessary to deliver a drum in a workshop of car-care centre for проточки.
  3. If during check all components are found in a satisfactory condition, establish a drum into place.
  4. Establish wheels and lower the car on the earth.

Lay brake

Management of a lay brake is carried out manually, by means of the lever. The lay brake influences brake mechanisms of back wheels. The elementary and most evident way of check of serviceability of functioning of a lay brake is the car stop on an inclined plane. If after control lever raising by a lay brake the car is not kept on a bias motionlessly, the brake requires adjustment (the Head Brake system).
